Celebrities are strange... who waits 8 years to get divorced?

I'm hearing great things about Loretta Lynn's new CD, produced by the White Stripes' Jack White. Such great things that I'm actually gonna buy it. I very rarely drop money on country music so this is a big deal - but then of all the money I've dropped on country music, probably half of it was for Loretta.

The Friday Five people have been busy all of April so they suggested finding an old one you've never done. I chose one from October 2002:

1. What size shoe do you wear?
7 - 7.5

2. How many pairs of shoes do you own?
I'm gonna go with the conservative estimate of 50 pairs. I can't tell you for sure because it's been a long time since I did inventory but I do know that I'm always tripping over them in my hallway. And that there's more under my coat rack. And there's a lot more shoved in my bedroom closet. And there's even more at my mom's house.

3. What type of shoe do you prefer (boots, sneakers, pumps, etc.)?
I love all shoes but flip-flops/sandals are my favorites. Mules are a close second.

4. Describe your favorite pair of shoes. Why are they your favorite?
Old Navy platform flip-flops - navy blue & black - which I bought about 6 or 7 years ago for about $5. They are my favorites because they look cute w/pretty much anything and they are super comfy and they have lasted 6 or 7 years. I wish I'd bought 5 more pairs of them so that I could have a pair for the rest of my life. I'm wearing them right now.

5. What's the most you've spent on one pair of shoes?
$120 for a pair of knee high black boots. $70 for the replacement pair. Also $70 for an awesome pair of black mules. Other than that I usually don't spend more than $10 for sandals/heels/flip-flops and $20 for boots/sneakers.

Bonus question I just made up: Do you have a current dream pair of shoes?
Mm-hmm. And these are they. Aren't they pretty?

Just a couple of O.C. things...

First off, how cute is Adam Brody? I say VERY.

Second, I wonder if all of Mischa Barton's diva-ish behavior is going to come back to bite her in the ass a-la-Shannon Doherty... I mean as far as I know nobody even likes her character, Marissa. I wonder if the wardrobe person secretly hates her because everything she wore in last nights episode was cringe-worthy... meanwhile everyone else looked fine. Or maybe she dresses herself? It's possible because from what I've seen, her "fashion sense" offscreen is horrible, too... either way, you could easily get rid of Marissa.

Third, how funny was it that Summer's dad is the guy from Flashdance? Hehehe. That's one of the things I love about The O.C. - they have great casting skills. I mean I would have never thought to cast Tate Donovan as anybody's dad. And Peter Gallagher is perfect on the show.

Alrighty. Going now.

Hypocrisy, isn't it great? How is a 1/2 a second breast shot more offensive than showing pictures of a dying human being??

Diana family sickened by pictures

CBS is beyond stupid if they think that it wasn't the least bit "graphic or exploitative" - the only reason news programs still do stories about Princess Diana is because they know it's an instant ratings boost. And if they didn't think it would be a big deal then why did they put out a statement before the show aired?

The network said: "A one-hour report from 48 Hours Investigates on Princess Diana's death will include photocopied images, none of them remotely graphic, that had previously not been seen and are part of a 4,000-page French government report the broadcast recently obtained."

Sounds awfully exploitative to me... and "graphic" or not, it's certainly still sick, distasteful, etc. Celebrity or not - she was somebody's mother, daughter, sister, and friend. CBS should, at the very least, respect that.

I cannot even believe that some republicans are actually questioning John Kerry's war record... in particular the "seriousness" of his WAR INJURIES. What the fuck? Let me explain something... anytime a soldier is injured in the line of duty - whether they get shot or fall off a truck - that's serious. You won't see me out there risking any part of my ass for this country's ridiculous political agandas, which makes me that much thankful that there are people who will. To question the "seriousness" of any injury to any soldier serving in combat is an insult to our entire military. This makes me so incredibly angry... my head is about to explode. Why don't we compare Kerry's war injuries with Bush's - oh, wait that's right, the shrub was off somewhere getting drunk during Vietnam.

Kerry posts military records online

Worst Remake Ever (Song):

Take my breath away... Jessica Simpson

I didn't think you could make that song sound horrible but somehow she did.

I just missed hitting a pedestrian with my car this morning... I think that means I need a vacation.

98.1 has moved from "Like a Prayer" to "Holiday"... is it asking too much for them to rotate Madonna songs from day to day and maybe, just maybe, add a one or two others to the mix?

IS IT???

This is fun...

KILL BILL

I know it's just finally starting to get warm and everything but I've still been in the mood to watch Elf. Which begs the question - when the hell is Elf going to be released on DVD?

I just took down my email link because my spam is out of control. I replaced it with the simple: michelle at sagerock.com - I figure most non-idiots should be able to figure that out.

I read in People magazine last night that the name of Debra Messing's new son is a "closely guarded secret"... wha???? Closely Guarded Secret? Does she not want anyone else to have the same name or something? I don't get it. It's obviously not a privacy issue because there were pics of said baby plastered on the covers of both People and US Weekly this week. And they wanted everyone to know that the healthy baby boy weighed 5lbs. 14oz., 19 and some odd inches, etc. But the name is a big secret? Whatever...

Baby Boy Zelman

So I know "they" say that you're not suppose to buy a dog from a pet store because of puppy mills and such but... are you just suppose to let the dogs die at the store? I'm just saying, I'm not sure that this has been thought out very well...

I had a hard time resisting the adorable pups at the pet store in Medina on Saturday night... especially the maltese. I'm sure I could have snuck him in and out of my building quite easily. But... I didn't.

Boo-hoo.

Previously on Michelle's blog...

Michelle promised you all some essays during "Celebrate Free Will Week".

Unfortunately for you, my free will is pushing me in a lazy direction this Monday morning so... well, there's not gonna be an essay today. Go smoke a cigarette or something instead.

Meanwhile... did anyone ever see the episode of Dharma & Greg where we see Dharma's childhood bedroom? It's this big round room built around a giant trampoline - anybody? Anywho, I want a room like that.

Just thought I'd share.

Bill Rancic is The Apprentice

In my defense, If I would've known that Kwame could actually fire Omarosa I wouldn't have picked him to win last night...

Who will become The Apprentice?

My prediction? Kwame

I knew I liked Starbucks for a reason...

The Caffeine Count In Your Morning Fix

USA TODAY is all about The O.C. today... they've got:

Five reasons you should watch The O.C.

and:

Adult Characters of The O.C.

and:

A grown-up's guide to The O.C.

Seriously people, watch it... what else is there to do (or watch) on a Wednesday night?

Thursday, April 08, 2004

We did some crazy back bend in yoga today and I almost smacked my head into the wall... that would have been slightly embarrassing.

Wednesday, April 07, 2004

Seriously though, what's with "Like A Prayer" ???? It's on again...

Tuesday, April 06, 2004

"Like a Prayer" is on the radio for the second time today (on the same radio station)... wtf? I'm not complaining or anything cause I love me some Madonna but how about you play a different song. Maybe even a new one...

No, seriously? Milton Bradley? Oh, wait... he got traded.

I was trying to come up with some dumb joke wherein I could link to the Milton Bradley Company History page but I'm not feeling it... but I do suddenly want to play Life. Hmmm... I never really noticed that it's actually called The Game of Life game. That's dumb.

This is how out of the Indians loop I've been... who knew we had a player named Coco Crisp? Almost makes me want to torture myself and watch a couple games this year. But if I tune in and see a shortstop named Fruity Pebbles...

This weather blows...

I'm just sayin'...

Thursday, April 01, 2004

What the f#ck? It's snowing out there... this does not make me or my flip-flopped feet happy in the least.

I maybe have already posted this but what the hell... I want one of these:

Chill Out Room

I seriously need to start checking the weather before I leave my apartment. I walked out today with just a sweatshirt over my yoga gear and flip-flops on my feet. It's only 36 degrees out there! And walking into the YMCA building in downtown Akron is like walking in a wind tunnel... good thing ashtanga yoga warms you up quickly.

free will: n. 1: the freedom or ability to choose 2: the power of making free choices unconstrained by external agencies.

While some people might find this fun:

Turn off your TV!

I'm not one of them. In fact I'm seriously getting tired of hearing TV blamed for stupid or fat or stupid & fat kids. So to coincide with TV-Turnoff Week: April 19-25, I'm declaring it The 1st Annual "Celebrate Free Will Week," subtitled: "Stop Telling Us How to Live and What to Think." Anybody with me?

It's a nice f#ck off to all groups & organizations that feel they know what's right for everyone. This includes political, religious, and activist groups who push their "morals" (and I use that term VERY loosely) and ideals on every innocent bystander who comes within 100 feet of them. Everyday that week I'll be posting a little essay* (i.e. rant) aimed at one particular group that (personally) pisses me off on a regular basis. I invite everyone to do the same or hey, don't do anything... it's your life and that's the point.

*Disclaimer: If your easily offended I suggest you don't read this blog between April 19-25.

Happy Birthday Sesame Street!! Now, please remember - more Grover, less Elmo...
